DIFC Courts legal advocacy training

The DIFC Courts has brought English-style advocacy training, which is undertaken by all barristers in England and Wales, to the Middle East for the first time, ensuring the region’s business community can choose from a deeper pool of lawyers able to practice in both civil law and common law courtrooms.  The not-for-profit DIFC Courts Advocacy Training Programme is run through the DIFC Courts’ Academy, one of the Initiatives for Legal Excellence of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Judicial Council in Dubai, in conjunction with the Advocacy Training Council of England and Wales. It has been developed primarily to give UAE-based legal practitioners operating in the civil system the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to present cases in common law courtrooms, such as oral submissions, cross-examination and the use of skeleton arguments. Students include both newly qualified lawyers and seasoned professionals looking to fine-tune their advocacy skills. Enrolment is not restricted to the UAE and students living and working in the wider Middle East are welcome.  The DIFC Courts will run Advocacy Training Courses at regular intervals throughout the year.
