Dentons advices OSN on International cricket media rights
OSN sought Dentons’ sports and media practices team’s advice on its bid to secure media rights for the MENA region to broadcast cricket matches organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The cricket matches span between the period of 2015 to 2023 and includes 18 ICC tournaments. Two ICC cricket world cups, two ICC champions trophy tournaments and two ICC world 20-20 tournaments are covered in the deal.
The auction had strong contenders including STAR India and STAR Middle East, who acquired all of the global rights packages from ICC. Subsequently, STAR Middle East agreed to sub-license the rights for the MENA region to OSN. Dentons has advised OSN on several previous occasions including the acquisition of Pehla in 2013, which is the current ICC rights holder for the MENA region.
The Dentons team involved Ingrid Silver, Alex Haffner (Senior Associate), Alex Henderson (Associate) and Adrian Barr-Smith (Consultant). They all worked closely alongside partners Joby Beretta and Iain Black in Dubai and a number of other peers across Dentons' Middle East office.
