Project Finance team joins Winston & Strawn

James Simpson and Stephen Jurgenson have joined Winston & Strawn LLP. Simpson will serve as co-chair of Winston’s global project finance practice. The firm is in the process of opening an office in Dubai in the DIFC in the coming months, where Jurgenson will serve as office managing partner.

“We have been focused on growing our corporate practice in key markets, including New York, Houston, London, California, and Washington, D.C.,” said Tom Fitzgerald, Winston’s firmwide managing partner.

“We have acquired a prestigious, fully integrated team of project finance lawyers, part of which is located in London. This addition not only augments our project finance practice, but it also expands our reach in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa,” said Dominick DeChiara, chair of Winston’s corporate department.

Simpson concentrates his practice on project finance, with a focus on the power, energy, and infrastructure sector. He has more than 30 years of experience advising on project development matters, privatisations, mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings, government work, and restructurings. He has been based in Europe since 1992 and is very active in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS, the Middle East, and North Africa, with more than two decades of project finance and infrastructure experience in those regions.

Jurgenson focuses his practice on the electric power (including renewables and clean energy), water, oil and gas, LNG, mining, and infrastructure sectors in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He has 20 years of experience advising on a wide variety of transactional matters in these sectors. His core disciplines include project finance and infrastructure, banking and institutional finance, corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and construction.

Simpson and Jurgenson join Winston from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, where Mr. Simpson co-led its global energy and infrastructure team and Jurgenson served as office managing partner for the Abu Dhabi office. The fully integrated team also includes two of counsel and four associates.
