Squire Patton Boggs appoints financial services partner in Dubai

International finance lawyer Joywin Mathew has joined Squire Patton Boggs as a partner in its financial services practice group in Dubai. Mathew joins from DLA Piper in Dubai.

He has worked in London, Singapore and most recently the UAE; he is well positioned to help grow our business globally and especially across the Middle East, a region of increasing importance in the financial world, and particularly of interest to alternative capital sources and many of our US-based private credit funds clients.”

Mathew is a highly experienced international finance lawyer whose skills and expertise cover structured finance, debt capital markets, fund finance and sustainable finance. He advises investment funds, private credit funds, sovereign governments, multinational corporates, financial institutions and other alternative credit providers, on a wide range of public and private international debt transactions.

Mathew is also an industry recognised expert on blue finance and climate finance. He serves on the United Nations Global Compact’s Ocean Investment Protocol Advisory Board and is a member of the Legal Experts Committee of the Centre for Sustainable Development set up by the University of Cambridge and the Commonwealth Secretariat to provide legal and strategic advice on regulatory frameworks to enable access to funds to Small Island Developing States. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Blue Bond Accelerator (BBA), a new initiative from the  Ocean Risk Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) designed to drive long-term, large-scale capital flows from global fixed-income markets into the sustainable blue economy, with a particular focus on low and middle-income countries.

Mathew began his career at White & Case LLP where he worked in its London and Singapore offices and had secondments at Deutsche Bank and Citigroup. He joined DLA Piper in 2013, working in Singapore, London, and Dubai.
