Al Wasl Club and UAE FA advised to settle over mediation

Al Wasl has moved the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) by claiming compensation from the UAE Football Association over the signing of Portuguese player Hugo Viana, despite accepting its request for a two-hour extension to the October deadline. The FA is not settling for providing compensation unless a court order and judgement is passed. Saleh Al Obeidli, managing partner of Saleh Al Obeidli Advocates and Legal Consultants advised that a mediation process for both parties is the best option to maintain good relations between the football family in the UAE and can also take more than a year, besides incurring higher costs.

Saleh Al Obeidli Advocates and Legal Consultants tied up with Sao Paulo based Carlezzo Advogados Associados as the first ever law firm in the Middle East providing expertise in international sports law. Obeidli’s Brazilian partner, Eduardo Carlezzo, stressed that the presence of his firm can assist in the further development of sport in the UAE and the Middle East.
