Clyde & Co expands IP practice with partner hire
With Mark Devaney’s arrival, the firm is the only practice in the region with a full-service offering across the entire IP life cycle, with each area of IP being partner led.
Clyde & Co has announced the appointment of Mark Devaney as a partner in its Intellectual Property (IP) practice. Devaney will focus on trade mark registration related work across the firm’s network of offices in the Middle East.
Devaney advises clients on all aspects of brand protection, including trade mark filing strategy, trade mark selection and prosecution, validity and oppositions. His experience ranges from working with large multinational companies on high level brand enforcement matters to assisting start-ups to develop brand protection strategies to complement their business and support their commercial success.
Devaney is a trade mark attorney with over 20 years’ experience in the trade mark field. He has spent 18 years in London with Gill Jennings & Every, progressing to the role of partner. Devaney relocated to Dubai in 2016 and he has, since then, been a partner at a specialist IP boutique firm. Mark has been a recommended IP lawyer in both the World Trademark Review 1000 and Legal 500 directories.
With Devaney’s arrival, Clyde & Co has a unique offering in the Middle East, as the only firm in the region which is full service across the entire IP life cycle, with each area of IP being partner led.
Rob Deans, partner at Clyde & Co in the Middle East, commented, “As the UAE and wider Middle East become increasingly strategically important to global companies, the need for regional IP protection across the region continues to grow in line with business activity. The calibre of Mark’s expertise and his seniority and reputation in the market is a strong enabler to support our clients across the region.”
Mark Devaney said, “I am looking forward to bringing my trade mark knowledge and experience to a firm with such an extensive and established network. It is important to provide clients with high quality support in protecting and exploiting and their trade marks and other IP assets in the Middle East, and the strength of Clyde & Co’s IP offering in the region provides the perfect platform to do this.”
