Naji Hawayek

The firm has three new partners in their MENA offices. They are Naji Hawayek (Dubai, Corporate), Heather Nevin (Abu Dhabi, Infrastructure) and Alfred Thornton (Abu Dhabi, Disputes, Insurance).

Bilingual in Arabic and English, Hawayek has over 10 years of experience advising on corporate and commercial matters, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. He specialises in cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A), joint ventures, private equity, investment funds, private placements, corporate restructurings, licensing and regulatory matters, Islamic finance and foreign direct investment. He has worked with clients operating in most business sectors, including education, healthcare, media, manufacturing, energy and financial services.

Heather Nevin

Nevin has many years’ experience of advising public and private sector clients on major projects involving a variety of procurement options. She is familiar with meeting the challenge of complex ventures involving a range of legal disciplines and a multiplicity of interested parties and has particular experience of major projects. She also advises on professional team appointments and construction related security documentation. Nevin also has extensive dispute resolution experience representing clients in court proceedings, arbitration and adjudication.

Alfred Thornton

Thornton, a partner in the insurance and dispute resolution groups in the firm’s Abu Dhabi office. He practiced at a large South African commercial law firm as an insurance and litigation attorney before joining the firm in June 2006. The main focus of Thornton’s practice is on re/insurance and commercial litigation and arbitration. He also advises re/insurers on non-contentious matters. He routinely advises litigants before the courts of the UAE and other GCC countries and represents litigants in national and international arbitrations, both ad hoc and institutional.
