Company secretaries congregate
Marcus Evans Conferences organised the 6th Annual Board Secretary at The Address Dubai Marina on 4 – 6 May, 2014. The event was produced in collaboration with Corporate Counsel Middle East. Corporate governance has gained importance in the MENA region, thereby offering corporate secretaries an opportunity to play an important role within the boards of companies. The three-day seminar focused on equipping the attendees with insights on corporate governance, board meeting communication, role developments, electronic boardroom, future of board secretaries, documenting progress and efficiency and so on. The event was chaired by John Tothill, regional company secretary of HSBC Middle East Limited. The line-up of speakers included Carina Wessels (president, Corporate Secretaries Int’l Association), Claire Alves (company secretary, Jumeirah Group), Alex Ridout (general counsel and company secretary, Lamprell Energy Limited), Rima Hadid Al Masri (head of legal and corporate secretary, Mumtalakat) and many more who made expert presentations and participated in panel discussions on various topics pertaining to the board secretary. The last day featured a workshop on ‘Personal impact for board secretaries’ to strengthen their influence the board, which was conducted by Tothill and Ken Rushton (member of Corporate Governance Committee, ICAEW).
