DIFC announces amended data protection regulations for consultation

Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has proposed amendments to the Data Protection Regulations. The proposed amendments enhance the current data protection framework in DIFC, keeping the Centre at the forefront of data protection in the region. The proposed amendments to the Data Protection Regulations address the means for better, safer and more ethical management of personal data processing and operations. The proposed regulations aim to provide clarity on: Personal data breach obligations; Use and collection of personal data for marketing and communications; and personal data processed through digital, generative technology systems. The proposed regulations have been posted for a 30-day public consultation period with the deadline for providing comments ending on May 5, 2023.
