EMAC Session highlights the Enforcement of Maritime Claims in the UAE

Enforcement of maritime claims in the UAE was discussed at the most recent Breakfast with EMAC on February 17, 2020, at the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre in DIFC.

Guest speaker, Mark Lakin, a senior associate for marine and international trade at Stephenson Harwood explained how the UAE as a rising maritime jurisdiction is host to a wide range of complex maritime claims and disputes.  As the volume of disputes increase, so does the need for the maritime community to understand how to best navigate legal processes relevant to maritime arbitration, court proceedings, ship arrests and attachment proceedings.

“EMAC hosts these educational breakfasts to benefit the maritime community,” said Majid Obaid bin Bashir, Chairman and Secretary General, EMAC. “We understand that the prospect of a dispute cannot be foreseen, however, EMAC ensures that the community is aware of and accepts that specialist arbitration and mediation services through EMAC can provide the best support, at international best practices, for a fraction of the cost of going elsewhere,” he added. The next Breakfast with EMAC will take place on April 20, 2020 where the team will look at ‘dissecting complex, high value, maritime disputes.”
