Fordham Law School comes to Dubai

2016 was a busy year for the Fordham Law School’s alumni in the Middle East. Fordham Law alumni practicing law in Dubai and Saudi Arabia were planning the launch of the Fordham Law Chapter in the region.

Founded in 1841 in New York City, Fordham University is a global leading force in legal education with one of the nation’s most select student bodies, an enduring commitment to academic excellence, and an unrivaled record of graduate employment.

The Law School’s LL.M. program is structured on two interdependent principles: globalisation and specialisation. Fordham Law’s eight LL.M. degrees offer the opportunity to specialise in fields that are evolving as the law, economy, technology, and times demand. Sara Maroun, co-president of the Chapter, recognises the value of Fordham Law School’s offerings. “In our global society, it is essential for a legal professional to have an international outlook as well as a distinctive area of expertise. Co-president, Richard Marrin, a native New Yorker and Dubai resident, agrees, “NYC and Dubai are both about globalisation with specialisation – they share a similar excitement and pulse, they are incubators of innovation”.

The chapter was launched on November 8th with Assistant Dean Vera Bullock’s visit to Dubai. During her trip, Dean Bullock met with many alumni in Dubai to strengthen the school’s network in the UAE and top UAE Universities (including Université Saint Joseph (USJ) to discuss a partnership between the law schools.

The FLAA Middle East Chapter Association will provide a network for alumni from the entire University. The Chapter will hold networking events throughout the year and key leaders from the Law School will visit annually. The Middle East Chapter is part of the European Chapter and alumni from all over Europe will now be connected to UAE alumni.
