Law firm highlights

·        Conyers Dill & Pearman has surpassed seven offshore firms to be named Offshore Law Firm of the Year by Chambers & Partners, publisher of the world’s foremost guides to the legal profession. In its announcement of award winners, Chambers notes that “Conyers is acclaimed for its coverage of the Caribbean, Asia, the UK, Mauritius and the UAE. It is singled out for its exceptional strength in Bermuda.” This recognition comes just weeks after Conyers was named a Band 1 offshore firm in Chambers Global 2014, Chambers’ most comprehensive directory covering the legal market worldwide.

·        Dentons announced that it has joined with associate firm KapdiTwala to launch Dentons in South Africa, with an office in Cape Town and plans to open in Johannesburg later this year. The firm will also open an additional office in Francophone Africa in 2014.  KapdiTwala, South Africa's leading oil and gas law firm, has been associated with Dentons since 2012. It will now operate as Dentons in South Africa. KapdiTwala partners serve clients daily across the Natural Resources and Infrastructure sectors as well.

·        Eversheds has opened a third German office in capital city and has confirmed merger talks with German partner firm, Heisse Kursawe Eversheds.The Berlin office headed by esteemed employment partner Dr. Stefan Kursawe will cover all areas of commercial law, with a particular emphasis on public law, procurement law and real estate law. Eversheds reinforced gateways to Africa confirming another branded office on the continent in Morocco. The firm has signed an agreement with CWA Morocco to partner in the country, establishing two new offices for the firm in Casablanca and Tangier under the name of Eversheds CWA Morocco.  It will be led by by managing partner Mohamed Oulkhouir.

·        A team from global business law firm DLA Piper delivered a successful two-day workshop last month in Beirut, Lebanon, on the topic of legal drafting skills and ethics for law students and trainees, in collaboration with the Beirut Bar Association.  Eight lawyers from four offices of the firm's Middle East network of offices delivered the course on 'English Legal Drafting', which focused on how to draft corporate and financial transaction documents, in collaboration with the Beirut Bar Association (BBA).
