Middlesex University Dubai launches new LLM programmes for 2017
In September 2017, legal professionals in the United Arab Emirates will be able to enhance their academic qualifications with the launch of Middlesex University Dubai’s new LLM programmes. The LLM in International Business Law and LLM in International Law aim to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the fundamental rules and principles of international law and international business law, as well as their practical application. The new qualifications will also give the region’s legal professionals the opportunity to study the same accredited degrees as their UK counterparts at Middlesex University in London.
The courses were introduced by the University in response to the growing demand for postgraduate law degrees in the region. Enabling students to specialise in subjects related to international law or international business law, the degrees also aim to enhance their professional development and provide them with valuable transferrable skills to further support their career progression in the region or/and globally.
Students studying the LLM in International Law will be equipped with comprehensive knowledge of the founding principles of public international law and an advanced conceptual insight into theories underpinning the legal status of international organisations and their role in the settlement of international disputes. Students undertaking the LLM in International Business Law will focus on the legal rules governing international business, through the systematic and critical understanding of topics relevant to international business transactions such as trade law, international sale of goods and international arbitration.
According to Dr. Cedwyn Fernandes, director, Middlesex University Dubai, these courses have been developed to meet the region’s growing demand for postgraduate law qualifications which are recognised throughout the world. “At Middlesex University Dubai, our law programmes remain a popular choice for prospective students. We noticed that students completing their LLB or BA (Hons) Law were looking for options to continue their legal studies and further enhance their legal knowledge. Experienced professionals also want courses which can update their skills, or allow them to transition to a new specialty. Our new LLM programmes will facilitate this,” said Dr. Fernandes.
Students enrolled on the new LLM programmes will be learning from some of the region’s leading legal experts. They will also be studying the same degree programme as their counterparts in the United Kingdom. “All of our Dubai-based academic programmes undergo the same validation and monitoring systems as those in Middlesex University London. This means our graduates are awarded a UK degree which is recognised across the world,” explained Dr. Fernandes.
The LLM in International Business Law and LLM in International Law are now open for enrollment as part of Middlesex University Dubai’s September 2017 intake. For more information about these programmes, visit http://www.mdx.ac.ae/courses/school-of-law/law.
