New partner to head up Advocacy Unit for Al Tamimi & Company

English language common law commercial courts are on the rise in the UAE, and across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In response to this, Al Tamimi & Company has established one of the first Advocacy Units in the region, and the new unit will be led by recently appointed partner and head of advocacy David Holloway.

Holloway brings with him over 20 years of experience in international dispute resolution (litigation and arbitration), and he has been recognised in the legal directories as one of the leading barristers practising in the region.

The new Partner and head of advocacy will be joined by another new recruit to shore up the firms Advocacy Unit. Hugo Lodge joins as senior counsel in Al Tamimi & Company’s International Litigation Group and will be a member of the Advocacy Unit. Lodge brings with him more than 24 years’ experience as a senior advocate with expertise in the full range of corporate, commercial, financial services and regulatory matters. He has a particular expertise in the work of the DIFC’s new Digital Economy Court and Lodge’s focus will be on disputes involving the digital economy, particularly crypto and block chain disputes, and asset recovery. Lodge is a published academic author on asset freezing and tracing.

The group, led by partner, Rita Jaballah, comprises lawyers qualified to practice in all major common law jurisdictions. The group regularly advises and represents local and foreign businesses, financial institutions, government, and semi-government entities in a wide range of civil and commercial disputes under DIFC Courts, the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Courts, the Courts of the Qatar Financial Centre as well as the Courts of the Astana Financial Centre. The comprehensive practice area also covers civil and commercial disputes, enforcement of foreign judgments and orders, injunctions and third-party orders.
