QATAR – Ministry to publish names of firms violating labour law, says official

“NEW rules for inspection are being prepared and it will be announced soon. Once the new rules are enforced, the names of erring companies will be disclosed” Mohammad Ali Al Meer, assistant director of the Inspection Department at the Ministry told a local Arabic daily, according to Zawya

The Inspection Department will shortly hold a seminar for operators and employees of beauty salons to educate on new inspection rules before their implementation.

Al Meer said that five companies had been referred to the Public Prosecution for tampering with workers’ salary list last year. It is mandatory for the companies to submit details of salaries to the Labour Department on a monthly basis to ensure that they are paid in time.

He shared information on how a company was found concealing the death of a worker on work site to avoid contractual obligations.

He added that the Inspection Department detected 134 violations of Labour Law last year. Some 23 violations were detected in the beginning of this month.

The most common violation is hiring workers without acquiring work permit from the Recruitment Department. Some companies do not facilitate inspection procedures and provide necessary documents to inspectors, while others give false information.
